On Sunday (20 May) David, Brian and I (Katie) hit up the Capital Tri’s first Fix Splash of the 2018 season. The event is held at West Reservoir Centre near Crouch End. It has 750m, 1,500m and 3km races and is held three times year with the second run in July and the final event in September.
We all opted for the 3km which was 4 750m laps of the reservoir. I was due to swim in the 7.20am wave but as I only arrived at 7.11am and still had to feed child 2 before I swam they kindly let me move to the 7.45am wave with David and Brian. I was a bit scared that I was going to be the last left in the water but thankfully that wasn’t the case. After a bit of pushing and shoving on the first lap I had a relatively quiet swim and it was lovely seeing the city in the background.
Congratulations David who was first in the 3km and first vet! Brian was forth just missing out of a shiny medal. The women category was won in a super speedy 39 minutes. I swam the 3km in 50 mins and 35 sec which while still a good way off my best I was pleased with of 5 weeks of swimming post the arrival of child 2.
This is the first time I’ve swum at the West Reservoir Centre. It is a lovely venue with a great café and changing facilities and at 6.30am it only took 36 minutes to get there from Balham (it took slightly longer on the way home)! I will definitely be checking out this race and swimming in the West Reservoir Centre.
